BS EN124:2015

7th December 2017

BS EN124-2

The problematical standard BS EN124:2015 has been around for some time now and although there appears to be no interest or take-up currently in the 'Steel' section of the standard, the foundaries have been updating their products to incorporate the new markings on their Ductile castings.

The industry will notice very few, if any, changes to the products they buy. The basics of the new standard did not significantly change from the old version. The update centred mostly of the tests carried out under the standard and the introduction of additional materials such as steel, composites and concrete.

Part 2 of the new standard covers Ductile products. The foundaries that have adopted the new standard will now mark their approved covers and gratings with BS EN124-2 to indicate conformance.

Although there is no requirement to have these products certified by a third party (BSI, Lloyds, etc) Durey Castings are recommending you continue to insist on a third party mark as your best method of proving conformance.

Our partner foundaries will mark their Ductile products with BS EN124-2 and a Kitemark or equivalent. These products are coming through the system gradually and should be all marked accordingly within the next few months.

Until all Ductile covers and frames are marked accordingly, stock will be marked with the standard BS EN124 and Kitemarked. This product is perfectly legal, Highways Agency approved and accredited by BSI. BS EN124-2 product will phase in seemlessly.

You can trust Durey Castings to always supply approved product. If you require any further information please contact our sales departments.

We also hope to have news of an update on our steel and concrete products in the New Year. BS EN124-3 applies to Steel products and BS EN124-4 refers to concrete products.
