Durey Castings Limited are proud to be Associate Members of FACTA. We regularly and formally meet with other members to actively encourage improvements and clarification of load classes within the industry.

FACTA - Aims and Objectives

The first objective was to create an association standard with which all Members could agree to ensure high standards, customer satisfaction through fitness for purpose, and create a differential between the Membership and less competent or reputable companies operating on the fringes of the industry. Two years later, the F.A.C.T.A Specification for fabricated access covers was published and has been promoted to the specification market ever since.

At the same time, the F.A.C.T.A. Guide to Performance Classes was published as a guide to specifiers to understand the F.A.C.T.A. Specification and draw some simple comparisons to BS497 and EN124. The Guide has similarly been promoted to a wide audience.

Future Objectives

  • To negotiate the successful introduction of the F.A.C.T.A. specification into BS EN 124 - Gully tops and manhole tops for vehicular and pedestrian areas
  • To continue to promote the relevance of F.A.C.T.A. within the Industry and recruit new members
  • To continue to promote the relevance of fabricated access covers to the widest possible audience
  • To seek new and profitable markets for fabricated access covers
  • To form liaisons with similar Associations throughout Europe and Internationally
  • To participate with B.S.I. in the creation of a P.A.S. for Security Access Covers
  • Contribution to the revision of BS 5834 - Surface boxes, guards & underground chambers for gas and waterworks purposes - so as to include fabricated metal products.
  • Contribution to generation of a new British Standard for access covers with clear openings greater than 1000mm.
  • Continually monitor developments and changes to Building Regulations and British/European standards applicable to fabricated access covers.
